Abundance magic is not exclusively money magic, though money is often what practitioners are working toward. The broader category includes any working for sufficiency and more: enough food, enough time, enough health, enough creative energy, enough joy. The folk magic tradition doesn't distinguish sharply between material and non-material abundance; the harvest metaphor runs through it all.

The harvest metaphor is exactly right. Abundance workings function like farming: you prepare the ground, plant seeds, tend them, and harvest what grew. Magic in this register is not a vending machine; it is a cultivation practice. The timing of the working within the agricultural cycle of the Wheel matters, and the understanding that what you plant at Ostara you harvest at Mabon gives the working its frame.

Correspondences

Colors: Green (the primary abundance color; growing things, Venus, the earth's fertility), gold (solar abundance, material prosperity, the grain at harvest), brown (the earth itself, stability, the root of material wealth). See Color Correspondences.

Herbs: Basil (the prosperity herb of the Mediterranean; placed in cash registers and at front doors in Italian folk magic), bay laurel (success and victory; bay leaves in wallets are a traditional prosperity charm), mint (money magic; the smell of mint is specifically associated with cash in American folk tradition), cinnamon (fast luck and prosperity), grain (the direct material of harvest abundance). Crystals: Citrine (the merchant's stone; associated with Jupiter and expansion), green aventurine (luck and growth), tiger's eye (discernment in money matters; attracts opportunity), moss agate (slow, steady, grounded growth). See Crystal & Stone Correspondences.

Timing: Thursday (Jupiter's day, expansion and prosperity); the waxing moon through the full moon; Lughnasadh and Mabon for harvest timing. See Planetary Hours & Days and Lughnasadh.

Element: Earth (material manifestation) and Fire (the energy to generate).

Fiber: Green or gold wool. Earth-fiber (linen, cotton, wool) for grounded material abundance; silk for the luxury end of prosperity.

A Simple Working: The Green Cord

Materials: A length of green cord (wool or linen). Bay leaves, dried basil, or mint. Citrine or tiger's eye chips (optional).

Timing: Thursday, Jupiter's hour, waxing moon. Optionally at Lughnasadh or through the harvest season.

The Working: Hold the cord and speak the abundance you are working toward specifically. Not "I want more money" but what you need the money for, what sufficiency looks like for you, what growth means in the context of your actual life. Specific workings produce specific results. Tie seven knots (Jupiter's number, seven days of the week, the full planetary cycle) into the cord, speaking one intention into each knot. After the last knot, tie the herbs or tuck the stone chips into a small bundle at one end. Keep the cord on your altar, in your wallet, or buried in a flowerpot with a growing plant.

Abundance and the Creative Practice

For makers, abundance magic often has a specific creative dimension: abundance of inspiration, of time to make, of customers who value the work, of energy to continue. These are all legitimate abundance workings. The green cord above works for all of them.

A working specifically for creative abundance: on a Thursday during the waxing moon, cast on a new project. Work a few rows or rounds, holding the intention that this project brings with it new creative energy, new customers, new opportunities. The project becomes the working; finishing it closes the spell. This connects to the principle that finished objects carry the intention built into their making.
